Al Galdi lays out a few Redskins related items that popped up during Super Bowl week with former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan coaching in the big game on Sunday.

During a press conference this week Shanahan was asked about passing up on Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL draft, “I didn’t look into him obviously as much as I should’ve,” Shanahan said. “It was a little bit of a different situation with us just because, I think it’s well documented of just the relationship I had with Kirk [Cousins] and being in Washington and everything. I felt very confident he wasn’t going to stay there.”

Kyle Shanahan had a pretty good feeling the Redskins and Kirk Cousins were not going to reach a deal, so Cousins was definitely and option for the 49ers at quarterback, “anytime you go in to a season knowing that a franchise quarterback is going to be available the next year, it made me a lot more picky with what we were looking at.”

The 49ers made the trade for Jimmy Garoppolo in October of 2017, and Kirk Cousins didn’t hit NFL free agency until after the 2017 season, he signed with the Vikings in March of 2018.

How do the Redskins not try and work out a trade before any of this happened? Al Galdi is asking, could the Redskins have gotten the 49ers No. 2 pick for Kirk Cousins?
