Much like the Washington Football Team, Virginia Tech is coming off of their bye week nowhere near as healthy as they should be. Justin Fuente mentioned on Monday that he’s got a lot of banged up players and he’s not quite sure who will be available for their matchup with the Tar Heels. UNC is spiraling out of control with just one win so far this season. Before we look at the matchup more, here are some trends/numbers to watch:

  • The Hokies have won 10 of their last 14 meetings with UNC.
  • Virginia Tech has gone under in 13 of their last 19 ACC games.
  • UNC has covered the spread just once so far this season.
  • North Carolina has gone under in eight of their last 10 October games.

Listen, this is a mismatch, but I’m not ready to jump to the home team quite yet. I need to see how practice progresses this week. Cam Phillips is among the walking wounded and not having him would greatly hamper this offense even against a bad UNC defense. There’s no lookahead factor here as Duke is the next contest at home so we should get a focused effort from Virginia Tech. North Carolina just doesn’t present much of a threat offensively. They’ve scored 48 points the last four weeks. I think this is a lower scoring contest and the Under is probably the way to go.

Virginia Tech 24-10
