The Spiders hit the road tonight as they take on one of the best stories in the A-10 in Duquesne. The Dukes are 14-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. They have four double digit scorers led by Mike Lewis II and his 16.2 points per game. Eric Williams Jr., Rene Castro-Caneddy and Tarin Smith are other threats to beware. Let’s take a look at some trends in this matchup:
- Richmond has won 20 of their last 21 in this series.
- The Spiders have covered eight of their last 10 in Pittsburgh.
- Duquesne is 12-2 at home, but they are only 5-1 in lined games there.
- The Spiders have been an underdog 13 times this season and have won four straight up.
Keith Dambrot has done very good things with this basketball team, but they got served up a bunch of cupcakes out of conference. Arguably the best victory they picked up in that portion of the schedule was against San Francisco on a neutral court as a five point underdog. The team lost to Pittsburgh who is pretty awful and if there was ever a year to beat the Panthers, it would be this one. Richmond is extremely hot and are shooting really well. The Spiders have five double-digit scorers and are getting contributions from the bench even if they don’t show up on the box score. To me, this is a show me something game from the home squad. I think making Richmond an underdog in this one is a mistake.
