UVA hosts Louisville at 7pm tonight.
The Cavaliers appear to be in cruise control.
They are the #2 team in the country coming off of a victory against the 4th rank squad in America.
Yet, lost in the dominance is a minor injury that will be an interesting piece of adversity for the Wahoos.
In Virginia’s 65-63 victory over Duke on Saturday, star freshman De’Andre Hunter sprained his ankle.
The injury isn’t severe, but it will be a test to see who can step up in his potential absence.
I expect Hunter to stay on the bench unless he is needed. If Virginia can get it done without him, not only would it prove how complete this team is, but it would give him more time to rest during a grueling ACC slate.
If he does play then that only shows the lack of severity this injury possesses.
Hunter has been key lately. In six of the team’s nine ACC games he has put up double figures in terms of scoring.
The freshman wall can be real, and some rest for Hunter would only improve UVA’s odds of making a run in both the ACC and NCAA tournaments.
Here are some facts about tonight’s game against UL:
– UVA is first in the ACC at 9-0 and Louisville is second at 6-2.
– The Cavs are is 9-0 in the ACC for the first time since starting 12-0 in 1980-81.
– Virginia has a four-game winning streak against Louisville and is 5-1 against the Cardinals in ACC action.
