VCU @ Richmond, 9 — It’s round two of the matchup between the Spiders and the Rams. VCU looked feeble against Richmond in the first meeting a couple of weeks ago. The Rams couldn’t get much going on offense and couldn’t really mount too much of a rally in the loss. Since then, both teams are 3-1 and both are coming off losses to Rhode Island and George Mason. I think Richmond’s loss woke them up a bit as they realize it’s not as easy as they made it look during their five game win streak. Vegas has this game installed as a pick’em and I kinda like that line where it is. Right now, I think these two teams are on par with each other. The big question for VCU is who will be the second scorer behind Justin Tillman. Can their sharpshooters make 3’s giving them a chance to install the press? If not, it’ll be a long day. How will De’Monte Buckingham play too after a one game suspension? If he tries to do too much, that won’t be good either because Richmond has thrived sharing the ball. VCU has covered eight of their last 15 at the Robins Center despite Richmond winning eight contests straight up.

Virginia @ Florida State, 7 — Looking down the Cavaliers schedule, this appears to be one of a few games that the team could lose. The thing is, if they are going to get an effort from Marco Anthony like they did last week, this team will be unstoppable. I’m not a Florida State guy because of Leonard Hamilton. Year after year they have talented teams that fall short because of his poor coaching. FSU stole one in Charlottesville in their last meeting and you know Coach Bennett will remind his team of that. Normally I’d say there could be a look-ahead factor with the Hokies up next, but UVA usually plays great and focused. The Seminoles have balance, but I don’t think they get the win despite their recent success against the Cavs. They don’t have enough veterans to crack the Pack Line defense. Virginia 64, Florida State 58

NC State @ Virginia Tech, 9 — Both squads are 16-7 on the season and in need of resume building wins. In that respect, this one means more to NC State who would pick up a road victory. The Hokies are coming off a loss to Miami and their defense let them down once again. It’s almost like they think that because their offense is so good, they can let down on defense. When the long range shots aren’t falling, Virginia Tech is just another team. The Pack has won three straight and that includes a win in Chapel Hill. They’ve also got UNC up next and here’s a situation where focus could be an issue. I agree with what Coach Buzz said that if not for Tony Bennett, Coach Keatts might be the COY in the conference. This team lost by double digits at Notre Dame, Clemson and Virginia already on the road. I think Virginia Tech wins if only because they’ve got a huge three game road stretch at UVA, Duke and Georgia Tech. Desperation puts forth great efforts. Virginia Tech 88, NC State 75
