According to Bob Nightengale of The USA Today, the LA Dodgers have won the Manny Machado sweepstakes.

There has been nothing but talk over the last two months, ever since Baltimore became irrelevant in the hunt for the post-season, but according to the USA Today, Machado will be moved to the Dodgers as soon as the trade is finalized.

Nightengale reports that MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has not mandated that the Orioles hold off on announcing the trade before tonight’s All-Star Game, but Manfred would prefer the team wait until Wednesday.

The O’s need pitching prospects. They turned to Alex Cobb in free agency and it has not panned out for them in part due to poor run support (the team is next to last in the bigs in runs and dead last in batting average) and in part due to a poor starting rotation around him.

It will be important for this franchise to acquire good pitching prospects if they want to bounce back in the future in the ultra competitive AL East.
