The super-featherweight beat Mexican Hugo Aguilar on Saturday. The fight, which was Manuel’s professional debut, was held at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
“I wouldn’t trade any of it. It was worth everything I went through to get to this point,” Manuel said. “I’m a professional boxer now,” he told the LA Times.
Manuel’s last fight as a female took place in 2012 at the U.S. Olympic Trials. The L.A. Times chronicled Manuel’s journey from a female Olympic hopeful to a transgender man returning to the sport he loves in this mini-doc.
